Cedar Ward Spray FAQsUpdated 8 months ago

Is Cedar Ward safe to use around children and pets?

YES! The Cedar Ward Spray is naturally non-toxic, and safe when used as directed around food, pets and children. However, we do recommend storing this product out of reach of children and pets, as a precaution.

Dr Killigan takes pride in using only the safest ingredients. All of our products are classified as Minimum-Risk Pest Products, meaning they contain ingredients that are recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to "pose little to no risk to human health and the environment.”

Will the Cedar Ward Spray repel other insects as well as moths?

Yes, it will!

Dr Killigan's Cedar Ward Spray - specifically the oil and wood from the Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana) - contain properties that are proven to repel insects like clothing moths, silverfish and cockroaches.

Cedar is valued not only for its insect-repelling properties but also as a natural, safer alternative to chemical repellents, like mothballs, which can pose health risks to humans and pets.

Will Cedar Ward stain fabrics and other surfaces?

Dr. Killigan's Cedar Ward Spray is comprised of Cedar oil and other oils. As with other oil-based solutions, this spray is not suitable for use on fabrics or other porous surfaces.

For best results in refreshing your Cedar Planks or Cedar Chips, we recommend removing the planks or chips from their usual place among your fabrics or clothing, and setting on a non-porous surface. Spray all surfaces and allow to dry before returning to their spot. Once dry, your Cedar Planks and Cedar Chips will be good to resume their post, guarding your natural fibers.

If you would like to use the spray directly on a surface, we recommend spot-testing a small, discreet area and allowing it to fully dry before applying more broadly.

What should I do if the sprayer gets clogged?

If your Cedar Ward spray nozzle gets clogged, follow these steps to get it flowing again:

  1. Remove the spray nozzle from the bottle.
  2. Rinse the nozzle under warm running water to clear any blockages.
  3. Set the end of the tube in warm water and pump the sprayer a few times to work the water through the sprayer.
  4. Return the nozzle to the bottle and screw it on firmly.
  5. Test to ensure good flow.
  6. Resume with ease the refreshment of your Cedar products!

Why does the cedar wood fragrance dissipate over time?

The Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana), from which Dr Killigan derives the oils and wood for his products, contains a potent fragrance that bugs don't like. This natural fragrance comes from an oil in the wood that evaporates over time.

Factors that accelerate this dissipation include exposure to air, heat, and humidity. These and other elements break down the compounds of the oil, and the aroma fades.

Regular use of this Cedar Ward helps replenish the fragrant oil, keeping your cedar products smelling fresh.

How often should I reapply the spray?

The frequency of application depends on the environment and how quickly the cedar fragrance dissipates. As noted above, there are different factors that cause cedar to lose its scent. Dr Killigan's Cedar products retain their original fragrance potency for up to 6 months. As with all natural wood, the scent may fade over time.

To keep your Cedar products fresh and fragrant, spritz with the Cedar Ward spray every 1-3 months to restore the natural oils to the chips and maintain their repelling power. If you notice the scent fading sooner, feel free to reapply as needed. Refer to the instructions listed on your Cedar Ward bottle for best practice.
